Holiday De-stressing

If you're anything like me, the holiday's are only the icing on the cake.  Stresses of every day life are always catching up with me and it seems the closer it get's to Christmas, the closer I get to crazy.  Here are some pointers to help balance your mind, body and soul during this chaotic time of year.

1.  Find the sun.  The sun stimulates serotonin giving you an overall good feeling.  Go for a walk or sip a cup of tea near a window.  This is the cheapest happy pill there is!
2.  Surround yourself with citrus.  Certain citrus fragrances are shown to boost your mood and alleviate stress by increasing the hormone norepinephrine.  Try boiling some water with orange or lemon slices on the stove top or my favorite go to, essential oils.  I find oils to be most convenient when I need a pick me up.  My favorites are Wild Orange and Lemon that you can find here.
3.  Walk.  This one is simple and self explanatory.
4.  Do less.  We tend to feel like we have to do it all during the holiday.  You have shopping, wrapping, cooking, pictures, cards and the number of holiday events and parties.  Practice doing less, even if it is only one thing you cut out this year.
5.  Eat spicy.  Feel euphoria when spicy foods release endorphins.  Try this yummy recipe for Roasted Vanpayar Curry from the Simply Spicy blog.

My Oil Testimonial

For years I have been using essential oils for small gifts I have made.  There were the lavendar infused rice neck warmers, the eucalyptus eye pillows and a countless number of handmade soaps.  Every now and then I would put a few drops in the bath tub, but nothing on a regular basis.

Then my mother introduced me to a new line of essential oils.  I was skeptical at first.  (If you knew my mom you would know that it isn't uncommon for her to jump on the bandwagon when it comes to new products... a total sucker!)  However, when she listed off the many uses of the oils and her claims that it had cured many of her ailments, she had my attention.  Having used oils in the past I didn't quite understand the difference between my cheap oils that I bought at the store and the variety that she was using which carried a higher price tag.  Until she explained how they can be taken internally, topically and aromatically.  These oils are as pure as they can get going through multiple tests to ensure they are ready for us consumers.

So, I gave it a shot, figuring I had nothing to lose.  I had been suffering from a bacterial infection for over a year which antibiotics didn't seem to touch.  After a little bit of research I found that oregano oil had anti-fungal, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.  I convinced my mother to get me a sample and within three days of taking the oregano oil in a gel capsule, my infection was gone!  I was relieved, thankful and completely surprised after trying everything to fight off this infection.  The power of nature is immeasurable.  Having the ability to fight off an infection without any side effects was priceless.

It was a week later when my daughter developed a high fever in the middle of the night.  After my pleasant experience with my infection, I quickly looked up a way to treat her fever and cough with the few sample oils my mother had left me.  I proceeded to rub peppermint and lavender essential oils on her feet and gave her a teaspoon of honey with a drop of lemon oil on it.  I didn't have high hopes but decided to hold off on any cough syrups or fever reducers.  By morning, she was feeling much better and he fever was gone.  At that point I was a believer!  I now have a supply of high quality essential oils that I turn to any time I start feeling a little off.  If there is something that is bothering you; headaches, back pain, PMS or an infection, know that there is something out there that can help you with only beneficial side effects!
